Grade 9 Farewell

We are thrilled to be able to host our 2024  grade nine Farewell ceremony on Wednesday, May 29th.  This is an opportunity for our grade nines to get together one last time as a whole group for an evening of celebration and fun.  There will be a ceremony, photos, and a dinner followed by a dance!

On the morning of May 29th, there will be a walk through for grade nines from 10-11:30 am with a practice for the group photo.

That evening, the doors will open at 5:15 pm for general seating.  All grade nines should be at the school for 5:20 pm for a group picture.  At 6:00 pm, our ceremony starts.  There will be a slideshow of ELJHS memories and your child will walk across the stage for all to congratulate.  At the end of the ceremony, around 7:00 pm, we ask that all guests and students exit the gym to take some pictures at some of the beautiful locations set up around the school and courtyard.  You can also take advantage of LifeTouch, who will be providing sittings for professional pictures of your child and/or your family or group.  While you are doing this, we will be transforming the gym from a ceremony setting to a dinner and dance.  At 7:45, students will say goodbye to their guests and return for a catered meal.  A dance will follow.  Students can be picked up at 9:45 pm.

Dressing for the event:

Most people wear dress pants, dress shirts, summer dresses, or skirts. Tuxedos & formal gowns are beyond what most wear but what makes you feel comfortable and happy.  You'll want to look nice but also you’ll want to be comfortable so you can dance and have fun!

Guests and dates:

The dinner and dance is only for current grade 9 students. You cannot bring a guest from another school, another grade, or someone who used to go to LJ.  You do not need to come with a partner or a date.

You can, however, bring a ticketed guest to the ceremony but they must leave when other guests leave at 7:45 pm.

Dinner:

A catered dinner will be provided at no charge to all grade nines.  It will be a hot meal served to the students by a local restaurant.  We do our best to accommodate all dietary requirements.

Dance:

The dance will have a DJ, local to Lacombe, a laser light show with a fog machine, and will feature Just Dance Videos and “Glow in the Dark” themed decorations and snacks.

Is this mandatory?

This event is by no means mandatory, nor is the dinner, activities, and dance, but it is a lot of fun and your child might miss out on a memorable night should they choose not to attend.
