Grade 10 Registration Process

Dear Parents of Grade 9 ÉLJHS Students:

Next year, your child will embark on the next step of their educational journey as they move on to high school. Our school staff works very closely with the LCHS staff to make this transition as seamless as possible. This begins when our teachers recommend students for specific courses based on their academic achievement in grade 9. Our teachers usually discuss these recommendations with students and then with their parents during our spring parent-teacher interviews. Soon after, course counsellors from the high school normally meet with our classes to discuss the various options available to them at the high school level. Then, LCHS hosts a series of open house and course selection evenings where students and parents make their course selections. 

The COVID-19 school closures have led to a number of dramatic changes for both of our schools. We can no longer host students and parents in our buildings nor provide classroom-level presentations. Despite these challenges, staff at both schools have created a plan to provide students and parents with the information that they need in order to enroll in grade 10 classes online:

  • Step 1: ÉLJHS teachers make course and program recommendations for each student.
  • Step 2: These recommendations have been sent to the high school and to you (mailed). 
  • Step 3: LCHS will email students/parents providing registration and course selection information.
  • Step 4: LCHS will email students/parents the LCHS request form to choose their high school courses online.

We hope that this process makes it easy for our students to make good choices and find success in high school. If you have any questions about the teacher recommendations, please email your child’s teachers. They are available each day during virtual office hours from 2:00-3:00 and can answer any questions you may have about the grade 10 courses or their recommendations.
