Welcoming students from China

January 2019

Hello Parents/Guardians,

My name is Robyn MacEachern and I am the Wolf Creek International Learning Program teacher.  I am thrilled to share with you the exciting opportunity coming to the 7C and 8E classes in February.  Through the Wolf Creek International Learning Program (WCILP) there will be a few new faces in your son/daughter’s Grade 7 or Grade 8 classroom. Starting on February 4th, Grade 7 and Grade 8 students from Guangdong Province in China will be attending École Lacombe Junior High School and living in family homes in Lacombe. Some international students will attend other schools in Wolf Creek as well.

This opportunity brings many benefits to ÉLJHS students, the community of Lacombe and the Chinese students. In-class cultural exchange and culture sharing, student leadership development, ambassador roles, excursions and extracurricular activities, are just a few of these learning opportunities.

My role will be to facilitate and support the classroom and school activities developed through the program alongside the regular classroom teacher.  Through the WCILP program we have extra supports in place to help all students involved continue to develop literacy skills, share language, compare and contrast lifestyles, build relationships and participate in lots of fun activities.

Jamie Williamson, the WCILP Homestay Coordinator, will be working closely with the families who have opened their homes to the Chinese students during their stay. Her role is to support these families and the students while they are living in Canada for five months.

We are so grateful to the 7C and 8E teachers for volunteering to welcome new international students from China to their classes and for providing these opportunities to their students.  I can’t wait to work together with everyone in this learning community. We will be communicating more in the weeks to come as the international students will remain here until the end of June.

If you have any questions about the program, Homestay or other WCILP student and family opportunities, do not hesitate to reach out. For more information, check our website at or any of our team can be reached by email at I look forward to working with your students in the months to come.
