Tools for Schools- Apply by Aug 1

The Tools for School program is once again gearing up for the next school year. Tools for School is a program that provides students from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12 with a new backpack and basic supplies so that students are able to start the school year on equal footing with their peers.

The Outreach Centre processes the applications and is the distributor for the materials. We rely on the generosity of our community for donations and assist based on the donated supplies. Together we assisted just over 2,000 children with school supplies in 2016.    Last year we served 16 students from Lacombe Jr High.  This year we look forward to working with you and your schools families to ensure that every child goes back to school equipped with the items that he/she need to succeed.

This year we are using the “School Start” website to order the students school supplies.   The items will be shipped directly to the school, we expect that this will remove the barrier of “picking up” the school bags from our office.  We believe that students will receive the ABSOLUTE correct supply list items that the teachers are requesting, thus eliminating waste of supplies, money and volunteer resources.

They need to be ordered BEFORE Aug 1-2018.  Please encourage your families to apply TODAY!  Applications received after Aug 1- will be given a traditional hand packed bag from the Lacombe FCSS office, chosen from the items that we have on hand. Click here for the digital form.

Cash donations are important to the survival of this program, Lacombe FCSS will gladly accept all donations to this program.

Schools may refer families to our office at 4101-54 Avenue between the hours of 8:15 a.m. – 4:15
p.m. Monday to Friday and we will assist with the application and students will receive a new backpack and school supplies. Please note that we are closed on weekends and stat holidays.  Jan Pocock of the FCSS is also available to help families with applications and she is located on the second floor of the LMC (Library).

To be able to serve the greatest need with our increasing demand, we are now asking parents to
bring their children’s Alberta Health Care Card, proof and income and proof of residency in Central Alberta when they fill out the application form.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the FCSS office at (403) 347-2480. Put a smile on a student’s face and help reinforce the positive experience of going back to school.
